Hair Wraps for African Women

Hey KapFam, let’s talk about hair wraps for African women and why we love them!

It’s Cultural!

Hair wraps using African materials, specifically Ankara fabric has been super important for African women since the beginning of time. Who else thinks that Eve herself made a head-wrap before covering her body in the garden of Eden? On a serious note, head-wraps and head-scarfs are not only a cultural necessity but a practical way to keep your hair neat and tidy or just out of the way while you do your everyday tasks. On my last trip to Nigeria, this could not be more evident. Hair wraps were EVERYWHERE; from the busy merchant, to the businesswoman to the fashionista. It was clear to me that Ankara hair accessories are a significant cultural necessity for the African woman.

It’s Practical!

It’s no secret that African hair is special. And every 4c chick knows exactly what I mean by that. We have to take extra care to protect our hair from the elements of life. So while protective styling is incredibly important, it is also essential to have a way to protect your hair when you have your natural hair out. For this reason, hair wraps are extremely practical for African women. I don’t know about you, but I do not have the time and patience to do a cute twist-out, braid-out, or up-do every single day. So in those busy or lazy times, I turn to hair wraps, head-scarfs, turbans, and bonnets.

Speaking of bonnets….ladies, the time of wearing sleeping bonnets to Wal-mart is over. There are so many hair care accessories popping up on the market that make covering your hair a pleasure, more than an embarrassing burden. And we are adding just one more option for you!

It’s Fashionable!

The QueenKap was created out of the need to have an EASY hair accessory that was cute and fashionable while also highlighting the African culture. I personally tried many hair wraps and turbans and had a terrible time trying to tie them correctly. It was difficult for me to keep them tied in a way that actually looked cute. It could have been my impatience, or just lack of skill; but I wanted another option that didn’t involve spending loads of time in the mirror tying a scarf, only to have it unravel when I stepped outside. Versatility is also extremely important to me and I wanted something that I could wear with my hair out in an Afro, or in a protective style. The QueenKap is the Ankara hair accessory that fits a variety of hair care needs for every occasion.
